When we travel into an unknown place, trusting the road, we become pilgrims. And as pilgrims, the focus often comes down to being present, reading the signs, and trusting our instincts, and knowing that our needs will be met by the road. We start the day without any idea where we'll walk, eat or sleep, but by the end of the day, all those needs have been met, and usually far better than anything we could have thought up. This might very well be the deep adventure of traveling and why it is such an exciting thing to do. Having traveled since I was very young, almost never with an itinerary, I marvel at how through it all my needs were always met and that great transformative adventures came up to greet me. I also can't think of more memorable adventures than not knowing where the road would take me and not knowing where or when I would eat or drink. I developed this site in celebration of the pilgrim's spirit and of the feast of life. Here I share the many wonderful meals I found at the end of a day traveling into the unknown. Sometimes I was on known pilgrimage roads and at most other times, I was on roads of my own making. These meals spring from different cultures and from different times in my life, and as I continue to travel, they will be expanded. Some of the recipes also offer vegetarian twists to otherwise meat-heavy cuisines. All the recipes come from experimenting and recreating meals I had on the road once I got back home to my own little "test" kitchen. My husband has loaned his taste buds and memories to the mix and assisted many times in helping me perfect the recipes until they were truly delicious.
Creating these recipes brings back great memories. I hope you will enjoy them and
I hope they will incite many of your own travels and inspire your own recipes.
