Trained in the anthropology of religion and also a child of a progressive town in the Rocky Mountains, my interest in religion reaches through the orthodox toward a preference for understanding the personal spirituality of each faith's practitioners. Religion too often is hijacked by narrow-minded and power hungry people and is too often bereft of its original spiritual insights. But spirituality fascinates me, be it within the orthodox fold of one of the world's main religious traditions, or wildly beyond these and driven by an immediate unfiltered and purely organic and spontaneous connection to the divine. I believe spirituality is our birth right, woven into our very cells. That spirituality exists in every culture, in every time, in every place, in some form of expression, speaks of its truth as a part of the human experience. I relish in writing about spiritual topics because they get to the root of life and offer insights into who we are. Spirituality infuses life with reverence for all life and with a respect for the Earth as well as for each other. I write about spirituality around the world with the rigor of an academically trained anthropologist combined with the engaging skill of a popular writer and the compassion and discernment of a fellow journeyer.
